The Theme and how it relates to teenagers living in 2007

The theme is that our future is nearly hopeless because of the countless people who couldn't change the world when they had that big chance. Winston has a chance in the future, nearly impossible, but he still had at least one chance to change the world, courageously rebelling against the powerful party. He could have secretly planned and formed something against the party. He could have at least tried, but his feeble attempt to destroy the party failed because it was too late. He was too late to change anything from the party that had completely seized everyone, controlling every aspect of every human being.

George Orwell wrote this book before 1984, saying our future was hopeless unless people started to stand up for what they believed. Corrupt government would take absolute power, not even give the tiniest freedom to people. Our whole civilization would be full of corruption and lies. He is strongly emphasizing how our future can turn into a deep abysmal hole where only hopelessness exists. He wants to show through this awful and frightening hopelessness that if we lazily sit around, hoping everything will be alright, our future will be just as it is in this book. He is warning us in a sense telling us we need to take immediate action, for such evilness and corruption can conquer our civilization.

Through Winston he shows another theme saying that it will be too late in the future to fix things up. Through him he shows that the future is not an option, the time for change is now, not tomorrow, not next week, not next year, but now. Winston tries to rebel and destroy the party; however, he just fails, leaving the world in complete corruption, impossible to recover. This is a desperate shout, warning of the only chance to save this world from corruption.

This definitely relates to us teenagers living in 2007, because we are the next generation to take over the world. We are the chosen ones to change the world before any corruption takes over the world sooner or later. We will soon be the ones taking and ruling over countries and lands, given the chance to change this hopeless world. However, it may also be that we, teenagers, are the victims of the countless ones who weren't courageous and responsible enough to change the world when possible. We may be the unfortunate ones, hopeless of freedom.
